Strong social involvement
Since the creation of the mining companies SOMAÏR and COMINAK 40 years ago, AREVA has implemented an ambitious social policy. Carried out in partnership with local associations and representatives, these programs receive substantial funding (6 million euros a year over the next five years).
In Niger, the group supports programs to aid development as well as cooperative actions in the areas of health, education, training, and access to water and energy for the local population. The group also provides emergency aid to the victims of disasters.
Local economic development programs
AREVA is Niger’s main industrial partner and, as such, actively participates in the country’s economic development.
- Over 25 million euros spent over 6 years on economic and social development programs.
- Over 37 million euros in taxes paid to Niger in 2009, as well as 3 million euros in social contributions.
Health: giving everyone access to care
AREVA, a partner of Niger for half a century, has shown its solidarity with the Nigerien people by providing better health care services.
Education: giving everyone access to knowledge
Education has been a social development priority ever since AREVA began mining operations in Niger.
When disasters like famines or floods occur in Niger, AREVA provides emergency aid to the victims.
Scolarships for 60 engineers and technicians in Niger
The School of Mines, Industry and Geology of Niamey trains future engineers and advanced technicians from Niger. By awarding 60 grants to students, AREVA has enabled the number of students at the institution to increase significantly.
