Education has been a social development priority ever since AREVA began mining operations in Niger. The group’s support focuses on primary and secondary education in the Arlit region, with projects to build, refurbish and equip schools.
AREVA Niger and its subsidiaries are also associated with schooling programs for children from the nomad populations around Arlit, particularly in the Aïr Mountains. More generally, in 2006 the group launched a scholarship program aimed at the most deserving students. To date, almost 1.5 million euros have been spent on these activities.
Purchase of law books for lawyers
AREVA supports the promotion and dissemination of the law in the countries where it operates. It has renewed its support for the Association for the Unification of Law in Africa (UNIDA) by purchasing code books and manuals for use in Niger.
