UNIDA – Association for the Unification of Law in Africa
PURCHASE OF LAW BOOKS FOR LAWYERS
AREVA supports the promotion and dissemination of the law in the countries in which it operates. It has renewed its support for the Association for the Unification of Law in Africa (UNIDA) by purchasing texts and manuals for use in Niger.
HARMONIZATION OF THE LAW
The Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA) is made up of 14 African nations from the CFA franc zone as well as the Comoros and Guinea. Its mission is to lead these countries towards the adoption of unified business law.
At the same time, UNIDA is working to promote and disseminate OHADA law, notably by raising funds from private-sector donors.
MORE THAN 1,500 LEGAL REFERENCE BOOKS FOR NIGER
Judges and auxiliary legal staff in Niger lacked OHADA code books and manuals. The UNIDA informed the group of this need, and AREVA responded by financing the purchase of the legal reference books “Répertoire Quinquennal Jurisprudence OHADA” (1,500 copies) and “Le Praticien – Guide Pratique des sociétés commerciales et du Groupement d’intérêt économique” by Oumar Sambe and Mamadou Ibra Diallo (50 copies). This represented a donation of more than 20 million CFA francs (more than 30,000 euros) .
PROMOTE THE DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL PRINTING
The sponsorship agreement between AREVA and UNIDA signed on May 12, 2010, in Paris will also enable the Répertoire Quinquennal OHADA to be printed in Niger.
Encouraging the involvement of local companies will help to promote the wider use of OHADA law at universities and in Niger’s legal jurisdictions. Institutions will thus be able to offer their personnel all the documentation needed for the proper application of the new, unified OHADA law.
