Niger has joined the select group of countries that meet the transparency requirements for extractive industries.

The Board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) accepted Niger as EITI Compliant at its last meeting, held on March 2, 2011, in Paris, France. Niger is the first French-speaking country in West Africa to achieve this status, which it shares with the Central African Republic.

AREVA joined the EITI in June 2003, one of the first multinational companies to do so. Government revenues generated by these industries (taxes, royalties, fees, etc.) are listed in reports that are verified by independent auditors.
