At the conclusion of an audit conducted by AFNOR* between 9 and July 13, 2012, COMINAK, a Nigerien mining company 34%-owned by AREVA, obtained the renewal of its integrated environmental management and workplace health and safety certifications.
COMINAK was certified in 2011 to OHSAS 18001, a rigorous international standard of occupational health and safety management, and in 2008 to ISO 14001, an international environmental management systems standard.
The renewal of these two certifications is testimony to the commitment of employees and management to a policy of excellence and continuous improvement of performance in the areas of employee health and environmental protection.
Commented Michel Capobianco, managing director of COMINAK: “The company has a high level of international recognition in the mining sector, which has a reputation for being difficult.”
SOMAÏR and COMINAK, the two mining companies operated by AREVA in Niger, are the only ones in the country with environmental certification and the only private-sector companies there with a company doctor dedicated to this activity.
