Recruitment campaign to select candidates
On April 30, 2013, the mining companies operated by AREVA in the north of Niger (SOMAÏR, COMINAK and IMOURAREN SA) took part in a working meeting to establish the terms of a partnership to train, on their production sites, the 400 people who will eventually be necessary for the supervision and maintenance of the future plant on the Imouraren mining site.
The training plan
During the second half of 2012, IMOURAREN SA conducted a recruitment campaign to select the future plant maintenance and processing technicians and operators. From 5,300 applications received, IMOURAREN identified the candidates who will receive the training to gain the skills they will need to work on the mining project. This initiative is in line with the social and community development policy followed by AREVA in Niger.
The training plan will start with 160 trainees from mid-2013. Deployed across 12 areas of specialization, divided up into 37 classes of 8 to 16 trainees, the training course will consist of 3 successive phases:
- basic skills refresher training: lasting 2 to 5 months, it will be conducted in partnership with existing professional training bodies in Niger;
- in-situ professional training: lasting 6 to 18 months, this phase will be deployed on operational sites at SOMAÏR and COMINAK. The trainees from IMOURAREN SA will be gradually integrated into the teams working for these two companies, to take part in ore processing activities and plant maintenance operations;
- further vocational training: lasting 6 months, it will be held on the SOMAÏR and COMINAK sites initially, then on the Imouraren site in a second phase, with the assembly and commissioning of the various equipment at the plant.
A partnership between mining companies
This working meeting made it possible to clarify the roles and responsibilities of each entity in terms of the safety, radiation protection, logistics, equipment and resources to be mobilized as part of these phases of in-situ training.
The drawing up of these conventions between the three mining companies is a key element to the success of the multi-year IMOURAREN SA training plan, and the Nigerien mining companies are delighted with the progress made towards the forthcoming signature of a partnership. Once again, this initiative shows that the companies concerned are able to work together in a spirit of sharing and open collaboration.
