Niger: the ambassador of France in Niger visits SOMAÏR
November 16, 2015
On November 3-4, the Arlit site welcomed the new Ambassador of France in Niger, Marcel Escure, along with Jacques Peythieu, Executive Senior Vice President of the Mining BL, the Managing Directors of SOMAÏR and COMINAK and a delegation of French and Nigerian personalities.
On the mining side, the Ambassador was shown two deposits – Artois, which is currently being worked and Ariège, one of the very first pits to be mined in the 1970s. His field tour finished with an inspection of the work being carried out at the new pithead. On the facility side, he visited the heap leaching facilities, the ore processing plant and the power plant.
Thanks to this comprehensive overview, the Ambassador was able to appreciate the working conditions of the staff and the security measures implemented on the Arlit site. Managers were able to explain their missions and the way in which work is organized on the site, and to exchange on the challenges their respective entities are facing.
Jacques Peythieu took this opportunity to remind all those present of "the need to reach annual production targets to the highest quality standards and within budget. Where security is concerned, rigor and unfailing vigilance are essential; standards must be observed and we must demonstrate our ability to anticipate potentially risky situations for personnel".
The ambassador of France in Niger concluded his visit by saying: "I was very impressed by the level of competence of the managers I met in the field, and by the quality and security measures of the facilities. I am very satisfied with my two-day visit to the SOMAÏR site. Thank you all for your welcome".
